Description
Rendered through a semi-transparent male torso, the liver occupies the right upper quadrant beneath the right hemidiaphragm, with its large lobus hepatis dexter extending laterally and inferiorly and the smaller lobus hepatis sinister projecting across the midline. A falciform ligament (falciform fold) courses on the anterior surface, forming the visible boundary between right and left lobes and leading superiorly toward the diaphragmatic attachment. Inferior and medial to the hepatic margin, the stomach and proximal bowel loops sit in the background, providing anterior abdominal context. An abnormal focal mass is illustrated within the hepatic parenchyma. Attention to the anterior hepatic surface and falciform ligament matters when you need reliable external landmarks for segmental thinking and operative orientation, since the falciform approximates the course of the middle hepatic vein and divides left medial (segment IV) from left lateral segments (II and III) on many teaching схемes, even though true segmental borders are vascular.
