Description
Shown in lateral profile, the male knee is oriented with the distal femur superior to the proximal tibia and fibula, and the patella positioned anterior to the femoral trochlea. The lateral patellofemoral ligament spans from the lateral margin of the patella toward the lateral femoral epicondylar region, blending with the lateral retinaculum and lying superficial to the articular cartilage surfaces. Inferiorly, the proximal tibiofibular relationship and the fibular head sit posterolateral to the tibia, while a crescentic meniscal wedge occupies the tibiofemoral joint line between femoral condyle and tibial plateau.
