Presented as a half-body cutaneous map on a female figure in lateral profile, the chart segments the skin into color-coded sensory territories consistent with dermatomes and major peripheral cutaneous nerve fields. Along the head and neck, regions align with trigeminal divisions (V1, V2, V3), the great auricular nerve, and adjacent cervical plexus branches, while the thorax and abdomen are partitioned into intercostal nerve distributions that run roughly horizontal from posterior to anterior. Over the shoulder and upper limb, territories correspond to the supraclavicular nerves superiorly and, distally, to the radial, median, ulnar, and musculocutaneous cutaneous branches as they wrap from posterior to lateral to anterior surfaces. Color boundaries emphasize where adjacent segments overlap. For bedside localization, a lateral cutaneous view clarifies patterns that are often confusing on anterior-only charts, such as the transition from cervical to upper thoracic sensation around the shoulder cap and the way intercostobrachial (T2) sensation can refer into the axilla and medial arm. This is the map clinicians reach for when sorting a C6 radiculopathy from median neuropathy, or when distinguishing shingles (herpes zoster) in a single dermatome from a more patchy peripheral nerve lesion. Sensory loss does not read like muscle anatomy. It reads like skin. Course directors can drop this plate into neuroanatomy blocks, dermatology teaching on dermatomal rashes, and OSCE stations focused on sensory examination and lesion localization. It also suits patient-facing education in pain clinics for explaining radicular pain patterns, and for surgical counseling about expected postoperative hypoesthesia after mastectomy, axillary dissection, or intercostal drain placement.
