Description
Framed from an anterior perspective, the crystalline lens sits immediately posterior to the pupil and iris, its smooth anterior capsule facing the aqueous humor in the anterior chamber. Radially oriented zonular fibers (ciliary zonule) extend from the lens equator toward the ciliary body, which forms a circumferential ring peripheral to the iris. On the sectioned half, the sclera forms the outer coat, with the uveal tract implied deep to it, while the intact half preserves the external globe with scleral episcleral vessels and a blue iris surrounding the central pupillary aperture. That frontal relationship between iris, pupil, and lens is the key teaching point for accommodation and for common anterior segment pathology. Pupil block and iris bombe in acute angle-closure glaucoma depend on resistance to aqueous flow at the iris-lens interface, and this view makes the contact zone easy to explain. It also maps cleanly to cataract evaluation and treatment, since phacoemulsification and intraocular lens placement begin with an anterior capsulorhexis and hydrodissection through the anterior chamber.
