Presented from the palmar (anterior) aspect, the hand and distal forearm are rendered with the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint capsules emphasized at the fingertips, encircling the articulation between the middle phalanx head and the base of the distal phalanx in digits II through V. Each capsule sits distal to the proximal interphalangeal joint and distal to the insertion region of flexor digitorum superficialis, closely investing the terminal segment where flexor digitorum profundus courses to the distal phalanx and the extensor mechanism spans dorsally beyond the visible plane. The capsules appear as a thin membranous envelope, positioned centrally over the palmar aspect of the joint line and bounded on either side by the collateral ligament complex. Fingertip joint anatomy rewards an anterior view because palmar approaches, injections, and trauma patterns all reference what lies immediately volar to the DIP. A small structure, big consequences.
