Description
Centered in an anterior view of the male pelvis, the urinary bladder is rendered with its detrusor musculature and a visible bladder neck tapering inferiorly toward the proximal urethra. Along the inferolateral aspect of the vesical base, the inferior vesical artery is shown descending and distributing branches toward the trigone region and posterior-inferior bladder wall, a pattern consistent with its usual origin from the anterior division of the internal iliac artery. Paired ureters approach the bladder superiorly and obliquely, while autonomic pathways are indicated as sympathetic fibers tracking toward the bladder base and parasympathetic pelvic splanchnic nerves converging toward the detrusor. Orientation stays strictly anterior. Spatial relationships are clear. This vascular focus matters when you need to reconcile pelvic hemostasis with functional anatomy. The inferior vesical artery is a frequent contributor to arterial bleeding encountered during transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), open simple prostatectomy, and cystoprostatectomy, and it can be selectively catheterized for prostatic or vesical hemorrhage embolization. Its close relationship to the bladder neck and prostate also explains why iatrogenic injury may coincide with postoperative voiding dysfunction, where autonomic nerve preservation competes with exposure and control of small vesical branches. Small vessel, real consequences.
