Description
Emerging from the superior orbit, the levator palpebrae superioris lies superior to the globe and anterior to the orbital roof, its muscle belly narrowing into a broad, fan-shaped levator aponeurosis as it approaches the upper eyelid. Medially, the aponeurosis blends toward the medial palpebral ligament region, while laterally it spreads toward the lateral palpebral raphe, draping over the superior rectus in the anterior orbit. Framing landmarks include the frontal bone and supraorbital margin superiorly, the maxilla and nasal bones inferiorly and medially, and the orbital rim encircling the palpebral fissure. Orientation is unmistakably anterior.
