Description

Facing the male head in anatomical position, the anterior view frames the frontal region superiorly, with the superciliary arches and glabella centered above the nasal bones and cartilages. Inferior to the nose, the oral fissure is bordered by the upper and lower lips, and the mental region sits over the mandible, whose body and angle define the jawline laterally. The zygomatic regions form the lateral cheek contours, continuous superiorly with the temporal region and hairline margins of the scalp (caput). Midline symmetry is the organizing principle. Anterior head anatomy is where surface form and bony architecture align with common clinical landmarks: the nasion and glabella guide assessment of nasal trauma, while the zygomatic prominence and mandibular contour help localize facial fractures and swelling patterns. It also supports bedside cranial nerve screening, where facial asymmetry at rest or with expression raises concern for facial nerve (CN VII) palsy, and jaw deviation on opening can point to mandibular dysfunction or trigeminal motor involvement.
