Occipital bone anatomy dominates this inferior view, centered on the jugular processes (processus jugularis) as irregular plates projecting laterally from the posterior aspect of the occipital condyles. Medial to each process, the foramen magnum occupies the midline, while the condyles sit anterolateral to its margin and outline the atlanto-occipital articulation. The jugular process forms the posterior boundary of the jugular foramen region, lying posteromedial to the mastoid region of the temporal bone in the intact skull. Surface relief is bony and uneven.
