Description
Anterior antebrachial anatomy is presented from the cubital fossa to the wrist, with the radius lateral and the ulna medial in standard anatomical position. Superficial landmarks would include the brachioradialis on the lateral border, pronator teres crossing obliquely from the medial epicondyle toward the lateral radius, and the flexor carpi radialis and palmaris longus tendons descending distally toward the carpus, with flexor carpi ulnaris forming the ulnar margin. Deep to this plane, the flexor digitorum superficialis overlies flexor digitorum profundus, and pronator quadratus occupies the distal anterior ulna and radius. Expect the superficial venous pattern of the cephalic vein laterally and basilic vein medially, often linked by the median cubital vein at the elbow, with the radial and ulnar arteries coursing distally on their respective sides. This anterior perspective matters when you need to teach or plan around the crowded neurovascular corridors of the forearm, where small shifts in depth and position change what is at risk. The median nerve and brachial artery pass through the cubital fossa and then travel between the heads of pronator teres, a common site of proximal median neuropathy (pronator syndrome) that can mimic or coexist with carpal tunnel symptoms. Distally, the relationship of the radial artery to the flexor carpi radialis tendon guides palpation and arterial line placement, while the ulnar artery and nerve lie close to flexor carpi ulnaris on the medial side.
