Anterior Demonstration of the Lobe of the Thyroid Gland

Anterior orientation isolates a single lateral lobe (lobus glandulae thyroideae) of the thyroid gland positioned anterolateral to the laryngeal framework. Superiorly the lobe approaches the level of the thyroid cartilage, while inferiorly it tapers toward the upper tracheal rings, hugging the airway in the midline. Medially its surface relates to the larynx and proximal trachea, and laterally it would lie deep to the infrahyoid strap muscles and adjacent to the carotid sheath contents. A subtle posterior border is implied where the gland would normally curve toward the tracheoesophageal groove.
