Seen from a posterior perspective, the female nuchal region (nuchae, posterior collum) is organized around the midline cervical spine, with the external occipital protuberance and nuchal ligament lying superiorly and the spinous processes of the cervical vertebrae descending inferiorly toward the C7 vertebra prominens. Broad trapezius fibers form a bilateral, diamond-shaped contour, spanning from the superior nuchal line and ligamentum nuchae to the acromion and spine of the scapula laterally. Medially, the muscle borders converge toward the midline; laterally, the posterior border of the sternocleidomastoid frames the transition to the lateral neck. Surface landmarks dominate.
