Description
Radius anatomy dominates this posterior view of the forearm skeleton, centering on the lateral portion of the posterior surface along the diaphysis. The smooth field lies between the sharp interosseous border medially, where the interosseous membrane anchors toward the ulna, and the posterior border laterally, which forms a palpable ridge as it runs proximodistally. Proximally, the surface broadens toward the supinator attachment region, while distally it narrows as the shaft approaches the dorsal aspect of the distal radius. Bony texture is kept minimal so the borders read cleanly. Clinically, this is the working surface you reference when mapping muscular origins and planning fixation corridors on the dorsal or dorsolateral radius. Abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis take origin from the posterior surface of the radius and adjacent interosseous membrane, so subtle shifts in the interosseous border position can help explain tendon line of pull and overuse patterns such as intersection syndrome at the distal dorsal forearm.
