Running posterior to the distal tibia and fibula, the calcaneal (Achilles) tendon descends from the converging aponeuroses of gastrocnemius and soleus to insert on the posterior surface of the calcaneal tuberosity. A lateral right-sided view places fibularis longus superficially along the lateral compartment, its tendon coursing posterior to the lateral malleolus, while the Achilles sits more posterior and slightly medial relative to the fibula. The lateral malleolus, calcaneus, and adjacent tarsals frame the hindfoot, with ankle stabilizers such as the anterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments logically visible around the lateral mortise. The sural nerve and accompanying small saphenous vein typically track posterior to the lateral malleolus, close to the Achilles margin. Clean landmarks.
