Description
Presented in anterior projection, the torso of a female child is rendered with transparent body wall to expose the visceral organs within the thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities and their peritoneal relationships. Superiorly, the right and left lungs occupy the pleural cavities lateral to the mediastinal midline, while the esophagus descends centrally toward the stomach. Inferior to the diaphragm, the liver lies in the right upper quadrant with the stomach and pancreas positioned more to the left and posterior, and the small intestine fills the central abdomen with the large intestine framing it peripherally. Major arterial and venous trunks are indicated in situ. Clear orientation. For teaching, pediatric topography matters because organ position and proportional relationships differ from adults, with a relatively larger liver and a more cranial abdominal occupancy of viscera under the costal margin. The anterior view also supports discussion of peritoneal reflections and why pediatric abdominal pain can localize atypically, as in early appendicitis before parietal peritoneum irritation produces a reliable right lower quadrant focus. Surgical planning benefits too, since port placement and exposure in pediatric laparoscopy often depend on where the liver edge, stomach, and colonic flexures sit relative to the umbilicus and costal arch.
