Description
Medial exposure of the male arm from deltoid to hand places the brachialis deep on the anterior humeral shaft, hugging the distal half of the humerus and converging toward its ulnar insertion just distal to the coronoid process. Along the anterior compartment, the biceps brachii lies superficial and slightly lateral to the brachialis, while the triceps brachii occupies the posterior arm and frames the elbow from behind. Distally, flexor-pronator mass muscles of the forearm continue from the medial epicondyle toward the wrist, creating the layered relationship that keeps the brachialis partially sheltered beneath the superficial arm flexors. Medial views like this matter because they clarify what the brachialis actually does: it is the primary pure elbow flexor, independent of forearm pronation or supination, in contrast to the biceps brachii. The close apposition to the anterior elbow capsule explains why brachialis strain can present as deep anterior elbow pain, and why hemorrhage in the muscle after trauma can contribute to anterior compartment pressure or limit extension.
