Frontal lobe cortex occupies the anterior cerebrum, bounded posteriorly by the central sulcus and inferiorly by the lateral fissure (Sylvian fissure) in this fixed lateral perspective. The precentral gyrus runs immediately anterior to the central sulcus, while the superior and inferior frontal gyri are separated by the superior and inferior frontal sulci as they course toward the frontal pole. Middle cerebral artery territory infarcts often affect these lateral convexity regions, producing contralateral weakness that is arm and face predominant, aphasia in dominant-hemisphere lesions, or gaze deviation when frontal eye field networks are involved.
