Description

Posterior anatomical perspective of a male child places the superficial back musculature, trapezius superiorly, latissimus dorsi inferolaterally, and posterior deltoid at the shoulder, overlying the thoracic cage and the posterior abdominal wall. Deep to these layers, the paraspinal muscle columns track along the spinous processes, while the gluteus maximus covers the posterior pelvis and the hamstrings descend from the ischial region toward the knee, continuing into the gastrocnemius and soleus of the calf. Major peripheral nerves course distally along the limbs, with the sciatic nerve emerging from the pelvis to run deep in the posterior thigh before dividing toward the leg, and segmental spinal nerves exiting the intervertebral foramina to supply the trunk.
