Description
Over the lateral shoulder, the deltoid fascia forms a dense fibrous envelope investing the deltoid muscle (epimysium) and blending medially and anteriorly with the pectoral fascia over pectoralis major. Superiorly, it approaches the clavicle, acromion, and spine of the scapula, while inferiorly it continues into the brachial fascia of the upper arm along the deltoid’s distal contour toward the deltoid tuberosity of the humerus. Anterior and posterior laminae meet around the deltoid, creating septal attachments that help partition the superficial and deep planes across the shoulder cap. A clean surface landmark. That continuity matters when you plan incisions or interpret plane-dependent spread of fluid. The deltoid fascia and its firm attachments near the acromion and scapular spine influence how hematoma, local anesthetic, or infection tracks after subacromial injections, deltoid-splitting approaches, or trauma to the lateral shoulder.
