Description

Anterior thoracic anatomy is presented in an upright adult male with the lungs highlighted within the chest, extending from the apices superior to the clavicles down to the diaphragmatic domes inferiorly. The trachea descends in the midline and bifurcates at the carina into the right and left main bronchi, which enter the hila on the medial surfaces of each lung. On the left, the cardiac notch indents the anterior border and the lingula projects anteroinferiorly, while the broader right lung sits more laterally and typically descends lower due to the higher position of the left hemidiaphragm over the heart.
