Description
Rendered on a standing male child in near anatomic position, the central nervous system is emphasized from the brain within the cranial cavity to the spinal cord descending in the vertebral canal. Spinal nerve roots emerge segmentally and continue as paired peripheral nerves that course laterally into the brachial plexus for the upper limb and the lumbosacral plexus for the lower limb. Distally, nerve trunks track along the extremities to the hand and foot, with finer cutaneous branches spreading superficially over the trunk and limbs. Dark briefs preserve modesty while keeping the pelvis, proximal thigh, and lower abdominal nerve pathways readable. A whole body pediatric nervous system view matters because the pattern of deficits in children hinges on whether pathology localizes to brain, spinal cord, nerve root, plexus, or a named peripheral nerve. This layout supports teaching localization for common presentations such as perinatal brachial plexus palsy (Erb pattern at C5 to C6), traumatic radial nerve palsy after humeral shaft fracture, or foot drop from common fibular (peroneal) nerve injury at the fibular neck. Seeing the continuous route from cortex to distal nerve also frames why tethered cord, scoliosis, or spinal dysraphism can produce mixed motor and sensory findings across multiple segments. Use this artwork in pediatric anatomy and neuroanatomy courses, boards style teaching on neurologic localization, and patient facing materials explaining peripheral neuropathy, plexopathy, or spinal cord injury patterns in children. It also fits textbook chapters on the central and peripheral nervous system, and clinical handouts for pediatric neurology, orthopedics, and rehabilitation services. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
