Description
Rendered in anatomical position with transparent integument, the thoracic viscera are centered on the lower respiratory tract: the cervical and thoracic trachea descending in the midline, bifurcating at the carina into the right and left main (primary) bronchi. Each main bronchus courses inferolaterally into its respective lung at the hilum, where lobar (secondary) bronchi begin their intrapulmonary branching. The right lung sits slightly more superiorly and appears broader, while the left lung is positioned more laterally and leaves anterior left mediastinal space for the cardiac silhouette, which is faintly visible posterior to the lungs. A frontal, whole-torso context like this is the workhorse view for teaching airway anatomy because it keeps the tracheobronchial tree oriented to the mediastinum and heart, not floating in isolation.
