Description
Centered in the upper abdomen, the stomach lies just inferior to the left hemidiaphragm, continuous superiorly with the abdominal esophagus as it approaches the gastroesophageal junction at the cardiac orifice. The anterior wall is emphasized, with the lesser curvature oriented superomedially toward the liver and the greater curvature sweeping inferolaterally toward the left costal margin. The fundus projects superiorly and leftward, the body extends obliquely, and the pyloric antrum narrows toward the midline before continuing into the pylorus and proximal duodenum.
