Description
Greater wing of the sphenoid dominates the frame, with attention on its temporal surface, the broad, smooth lateral area forming the posterior part of the temporal fossa. From an inferior perspective, the infratemporal crest is seen as a sharp ridge running obliquely, marking the inferior boundary of this temporal surface and separating it from the rougher infratemporal surface below. Superior and posterior continuity leads toward the squamous temporal region, while the crest tracks anterolaterally toward the zygomatic area, clarifying how the sphenoid contributes to the lateral skull wall. Temporalis muscle fibers arise from the temporal fossa and converge deep to the zygomatic arch before inserting on the coronoid process of the mandible, so the contour and limits of the temporal surface matter when teaching mastication biomechanics and temporalis-related pain patterns.
