Description
Running obliquely from the zygomatic bone toward the modiolus at the angle of the mouth, the zygomaticus major is presented in lateral profile beneath reflected facial skin in an adult male. Its fleshy belly lies superficial to the buccinator and anterior to the masseter, with the parotidomasseteric region and the anterior border of the parotid area forming a posterior neighbor. Superiorly, the muscle relates to the zygomatic arch and the lateral orbital region, while inferiorly it approaches the perioral musculature, blending with fibers that converge at the oral commissure.
