Description
Seen in left lateral profile, the external nose is overlaid with the superficial venous network, including the lateral nasal veins and dorsal nasal vein converging at the nasal bridge and draining inferolaterally toward the facial vein. Superiorly, venous channels near the medial canthus communicate with the angular vein in the nasofacial sulcus, with small tributaries tracking along the infraorbital margin and across the zygomatic region. Underlying bony landmarks of the viscerocranium, including the maxilla, zygomatic bone, nasal bones, and mandible with dentition, provide fixed reference points for the course of these thin-walled vessels. Arterial and venous trees are differentiated, but the emphasis remains on venous anastomosis around the nose. Connections between the dorsal nasal, angular, and facial veins define the classic facial “danger triangle,” where valveless venous pathways permit retrograde spread of infection toward the superior ophthalmic vein and cavernous sinus.
