Description
Oriented in strict lateral profile, the shield shaped thyroid cartilage dominates the laryngeal framework, with its right lamina forming the lateral wall and the paired laminae converging anteriorly to create the laryngeal prominence (Adam’s apple). Superiorly, the thyroid cartilage relates to the hyoid region via the thyrohyoid membrane, while its inferior border approaches the cricoid cartilage at the cricothyroid articulation. Posteriorly, the thyroid lamina ends in superior and inferior cornua, which bracket the entry to the laryngeal inlet and anchor key ligamentous attachments. Clean landmarks.
