Description
Shown from a lateral perspective of the male shoulder, the proximal humerus is oriented with the humeral head articulating medially with the glenoid cavity of the scapula, while the clavicle runs anterior to the acromion toward the manubrium. Spanning the intertubercular sulcus between the greater and lesser tubercles, the transverse humeral ligament forms a fibrous roof over the tendon groove as it bridges anteriorly across the proximal humerus. Superiorly, the acromion overhangs the glenohumeral joint, and inferiorly the surgical neck marks the transition toward the humeral shaft. Portions of the upper thorax, including ribs and adjacent thoracic vertebrae, provide skeletal context posterior to the shoulder girdle.
