Visible from a posterior full body perspective, the rhomboid minor appears as a narrow, obliquely oriented band deep to trapezius, spanning from the nuchal ligament and spinous processes of C7 to T1 to the medial border of the scapula at the level of the scapular spine. Immediately inferior lies the rhomboid major, broader and extending farther caudally along the thoracic vertebrae, while the levator scapulae sits superolaterally, descending from the upper cervical transverse processes to the superior angle of the scapula. Superficial contouring is provided by trapezius across the upper back and posterior shoulder, with latissimus dorsi sweeping inferolaterally from the thoracolumbar fascia toward the humerus. Bilateral erector spinae columns frame the spinous processes in the midline. Rhomboid minor matters because it is one of the key scapular retractors and downward rotators, and a posterior view clarifies its fiber direction relative to trapezius and the medial scapular border. This relationship becomes clinically concrete in scapular dyskinesis and rounded-shoulder posture, where inhibited rhomboids and overactive upper trapezius can contribute to medial border winging and altered scapulothoracic rhythm during overhead activity.
