Description
Seen from the posterior aspect of an adult male, the vertebral column, ribs, scapulae, pelvis, and the long bones of the upper and lower limbs provide the bony framework beneath an extensive venous map rendered in blue. Superficial veins course over the occiput and posterior neck, then descend along the paraspinal region, while broad-caliber channels traverse the posterior shoulder and arm toward the cubital region. In the pelvis and proximal thigh, large veins track inferiorly toward the popliteal fossa and posterior calf, with finer tributaries extending laterally and medially into the distal leg and foot. Symmetry is emphasized. Landmarks are clear. Posterior venous anatomy is a workhorse for teaching drainage patterns and collateral pathways because it forces attention away from the more familiar anterior great vessels and toward clinically encountered superficial channels.
