Description
Centered within the pediatric pelvis, the uterus lies inferior to the small intestine and anterior to the rectum, with the uterine fundus tapering into the uterine horns where the uterine tubes course laterally toward each ovary. Each ovary sits near the lateral pelvic wall, posterolateral to the uterus and adjacent to the fimbrial end of the tube, a relationship that helps orient the adnexa in situ. Superiorly, loops of small intestine and portions of the large intestine occupy the lower abdomen, providing realistic context for pelvic organ position beneath the abdominal viscera. A semi-transparent overlay through the clothed lower torso preserves surface landmarks while exposing internal anatomy. A pediatric presentation matters because the prepubertal uterus is proportionally smaller, with a relatively slender cervix and a less prominent fundus than in the adult, which changes how you interpret pelvic pain, mass effect, or congenital anomalies on ultrasound or MRI.
