Description
Anterior forearm and arm fascia are presented as continuous connective tissue planes investing the biceps brachii and brachialis in the brachium and blending distally into the antebrachial fascia over the flexor and extensor compartments. Medially and laterally, intermuscular septa track toward the humerus, separating muscle groups and guiding the viewer’s eye from the cubital fossa region toward the wrist. At the elbow, the fascial envelope relates closely to the distal humerus and the proximal radius and ulna, then tightens into dense aponeurotic coverings as it approaches the carpus and metacarpals. Palmar surface faces inferiorly, consistent with a pronated upper limb. Fascial anatomy matters here because compartment boundaries are not abstract lines, they are surgical and pathophysiologic planes. The intermuscular septa and dense antebrachial fascia help define the spaces affected in acute compartment syndrome of the forearm, where rising intracompartmental pressure threatens the median and ulnar nerves and the radial and ulnar arteries. This anterior orientation also supports teaching of volar surgical approaches, where incisions and deep dissections respect fascial layers to reach the radius, ulna, or flexor tendon sheaths while limiting iatrogenic neurovascular injury.
