Description
Arising from the anterior surface of the zygomatic bone near the zygomaticomaxillary region, the zygomaticus minor runs inferomedially toward the upper lip, inserting into the soft tissues of the nasolabial fold and blending with the orbicularis oris and adjacent elevators of the lip. Positioned superior to the zygomaticus major, its slender belly sits lateral to the levator labii superioris and just inferior to the orbital margin, with the maxilla and infraorbital foramen forming key bony landmarks in the same field. Deep to the superficial facial musculature, the underlying skull is rendered with the frontal bone, nasal aperture, maxilla, and mandible, while the cervical vertebrae and hyoid appear inferiorly to anchor facial anatomy in the head and neck context.
