Description
Presented in anterior orientation, the radius is shown from the proximal head and neck through the radial tuberosity to the distal metaphysis and radial styloid process. A comminuted fracture traverses the mid-diaphysis, with multiple cortical fragments disrupting the otherwise straight longitudinal contour of the shaft. Along the medial border, the expected relationship to the ulna and interosseous membrane is implied, since the radial shaft normally sits lateral to the ulna in anatomical position and rotates around it during pronation and supination. Bone alignment is the story here. Mid-shaft radial fractures are not just “broken bone” problems, they are forearm ring injuries that can destabilize the interosseous membrane and alter the radius’ length and bow, which directly limits forearm rotation even after union. From an orthopedic trauma standpoint, this anterior view supports teaching of reduction goals, restoration of radial bow, and plate positioning, and it pairs naturally with discussion of the volar (Henry) approach to the radius and the need to screen the distal radioulnar joint for associated instability. Malreduction here often presents later as painful loss of pronation or supination.
