The femoral nerve descends in the anterior thigh and continues as the saphenous nerve, running medial to the patella and along the anteromedial leg, while cutaneous branches of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve and anterior femoral cutaneous nerves appear more lateral and superficial. Around the genu, the infrapatellar branch of the saphenous nerve crosses the patellar tendon region, with additional superficial branches radiating across the anterior tibia beneath the skin. Spatial relationships are clear: major trunks run proximodistally, then break into finer subcutaneous twigs over the patella and tibial crest.
