Description
Anteriorly, the transversus abdominis is presented as the deepest anterolateral abdominal wall layer, with fibers running predominantly transverse, from the costal cartilages and thoracolumbar fascia toward the linea alba. Superior to inferior, its muscular belly spans from the lower ribs to the iliac crest, tapering into a broad aponeurosis that lies deep to the rectus abdominis and contributes to the rectus sheath.
