Description
Seen from the diaphragmatic (inferior) surface, the left ventricle forms most of the broad posterior-inferior contour, while the right ventricle wraps more anteriorly toward the acute margin. The right atrium sits more rightward and superior relative to the ventricles, with the left atrium positioned posterior and superior near the base, where the great vessels arise. Coronary vessels course within the atrioventricular (coronary) sulcus and along the interventricular grooves, tracking the epicardial fat that separates atrial from ventricular myocardium. The apex remains inferolateral and leftward in this orientation. Inferior heart anatomy matters because it is the surface that rests on the central tendon of the diaphragm and contributes to the cardiac silhouette adjacent to the esophageal hiatus and inferior vena cava.
