Description
Arising from the left inferior lobar (secondary) bronchus, the common basal segmental bronchus descends into the lower lobe to supply the basal segments at the pulmonary base. Its course runs inferiorly and posteriorly toward the diaphragmatic surface, with subsegmental bronchi branching distally into smaller bronchial tubes that transition to bronchioles within the peripheral parenchyma. Medially, the bronchial lumen tracks toward the hilum and root of the lung; laterally, it approaches the costal surface as it arborizes.
