Description
Anterior orientation frames the superior pole (base) of the kidney beneath its fibrous renal capsule, with the convex lateral border sweeping laterally and the flatter medial border turning toward the renal hilum. Near the medial margin, the renal sinus region is suggested where the renal pelvis would sit posterior to the renal vessels, while the renal parenchyma forms a continuous cortex overlying deeper medullary pyramids. Color segmentation helps separate capsule, cortical tissue, and the underlying nephron-bearing parenchyma without losing topographic continuity. Clean relationships. Focusing on the superior aspect matters because the upper pole lies in close proximity to the suprarenal (adrenal) gland and the diaphragmatic surface, a corridor frequently discussed when teaching retroperitoneal anatomy and adrenalectomy planning.
