Calcaneus anatomy dominates the frame, isolating the medial aspect of the anterior process where the anterior calcaneal body projects toward the midfoot. The smooth medial surface sits just anterior to the sustentaculum tali, with the shelf-like sustentaculum positioned superiorly and medially as it supports the talus. Close by, the region transitions posteriorly toward the middle talar articular facet on the superior surface and anteriorly toward the calcaneocuboid joint area, even though the cuboid itself is not included. Orientation is fixed to emphasize medial relationships rather than the lateral sinus tarsi. Anterior process morphology matters because it is a frequent site of fracture after inversion injuries, classically the anterior process fracture (often called a snowboarder’s fracture) that can be missed when treated as a routine ankle sprain.
