Purple, Gram-positive cocci are arranged in short chains and paired units consistent with Streptococcus pyogenes, with individual spherical cells aligned end-to-end along a single longitudinal axis. Adjacent cocci sit in close apposition, creating the classic streptococcal “string of beads” appearance, while occasional diplococci-like pairs reflect recent division before longer chains form.
