Description
Rendered on a semi-transparent anterior view of an adult Asian male torso, the liver occupies the right hypochondriac region and extends medially into the epigastrium, its convex diaphragmatic surface lying deep to the inferior ribs and costal margin. Inferiorly, the visceral surface is emphasized, with the porta hepatis situated on the transverse fissure between the anatomical right and left lobes, where the portal vein, hepatic artery proper, and hepatic ducts enter and exit. Medial relationships implied by this projection include proximity to the stomach and proximal duodenum, while inferiorly the intestinal loops fill the lower abdomen. Orientation is clear. This is a front-facing topographic map of the upper abdomen.
