Description
Semi-transparent soft tissues of an obese adult male torso frame the large intestine from the right iliac fossa to the pelvic basin, with the caecum and ascending colon positioned laterally on the right, the transverse colon sweeping superiorly across the upper abdomen, and the descending colon tracking inferiorly along the left flank. Distally, the sigmoid colon forms a terminal sigmoid coil that arcs medially and inferiorly before entering the lesser pelvis to continue as the rectum. Portions of the stomach, small intestine, liver, and mesenteric mass may be faintly suggested through the overlay, but the colon remains the dominant visual pathway. Spatial orientation is presented in a left-facing profile with an anterior body wall silhouette. Obesity changes the teaching conversation around colon topography because increased visceral and subcutaneous fat can displace bowel loops, deepen the pelvic inlet, and obscure surface landmarks used during abdominal examination and operative planning.
