Description
Posterior body habitus of an obese adult white male frames a semi-transparent anatomical overlay of the gastrointestinal tract, with the ascending colon on the subject’s right, the transverse colon crossing superiorly, and the descending and sigmoid colon coursing inferiorly to the rectum in the midline. Haustral sacculations and the longitudinal taeniae coli are represented along the colonic wall, bracketing the small intestine centrally within the colonic perimeter. Superior to the bowel, the stomach lies in the left upper quadrant, while the lungs sit bilaterally within the thorax, reinforcing the abdomen’s position inferior to the diaphragmatic level.
