Description
Articular eminence (articular tubercle) of the temporal bone dominates this lateral skull detail, projecting anterior to the mandibular fossa at the root of the zygomatic process. Superior and posterior to the eminence, the smooth concavity of the mandibular (glenoid) fossa is implied as the articular surface for the mandibular condyle, while the zygomatic process extends anteriorly toward the zygomatic bone to form the zygomatic arch.
