Superiorly oriented over the hepatic hilum, the right and left hepatic ducts are shown converging to form the common hepatic duct, with the cystic duct from the gallbladder neck joining to create the common bile duct (ductus choledochus). The gallbladder sits inferior to the liver on the visceral surface, its fundus projecting anteriorly while the body tracks medially toward the porta hepatis. Intrahepatic biliary radicles course within the hepatic parenchyma toward the right and left hepatic ducts, following portal triad pathways that lie deep to the superior viewpoint.
