Description
Beneath a partially transparent anterior skin layer, the brachialis occupies the distal half of the anterior humerus, its broad muscle belly lying deep to the biceps brachii and tapering inferiorly toward the elbow. Medially and laterally, its fibers arise from the anterior surface of the humeral shaft and converge toward the ulnar tuberosity and coronoid process region, immediately anterior to the elbow joint. Superficial contours of the biceps brachii frame the deeper plane, while the triceps brachii mass remains posterior and only hints at itself along the arm’s lateral silhouette. Forearm flexor bulk begins just distal to the cubital fossa, providing orientation for proximal forearm relationships. Because the brachialis is the primary elbow flexor regardless of forearm position, an anterior view that preserves its relationship beneath the biceps helps clarify why supination does not “switch off” elbow flexion strength the way it can alter biceps contribution. This is the muscle you want in mind when assessing tenderness after eccentric loading, or when distinguishing a suspected brachialis strain from distal biceps tendinopathy and partial tears that change the biceps contour.
