Description
Oriented to the right elbow, this anterior perspective centers on the ulnar (medial) collateral ligament complex spanning from the medial epicondyle of the humerus to the ulna at the sublime tubercle and along the medial margin of the trochlear notch. The anterior bundle runs anteroinferiorly and is shown as the stoutest band, while the posterior bundle courses more posteroinferiorly toward the medial olecranon, and the transverse (oblique) bundle remains ulna to ulna across the coronoid and olecranon margins. Medial to the joint line, the ulnar nerve would lie posterior to the medial epicondyle, and the common flexor tendon origin sits just anterior and inferior to the epicondyle. Medial elbow stability is not abstract, it is what resists valgus load during overhead throwing. The anterior bundle of the ulnar collateral ligament is the primary restraint from roughly 30 to 120 degrees of flexion, the same arc tested clinically with valgus stress and implicated in classic pitcher injuries.
