Description
Oriented in an anterior (palmar) view of the wrist and hand, the fibrous capsule of the carpometacarpal (CMC) joints is emphasized where the distal carpal row meets the bases of the metacarpals. The trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, and hamate lie proximal to the first through fifth metacarpal bases, with the capsule spanning these articular margins and blending with palmar carpometacarpal ligaments. Distally, the metacarpals continue to the metacarpophalangeal joints and phalanges, while flexor tendons course along the palmar aspect superficial to the metacarpals and toward the digital fibrous sheaths.
