Description
Across the anterior forehead and superior orbital region, the dermal layer is rendered translucent to expose the corrugator supercilii deep to the medial eyebrow, arising near the medial end of the superciliary arch and coursing superolaterally toward the skin of the brow. Medial to it sit the glabellar soft tissues over the nasion, while the frontalis lies superiorly in the forehead and the orbicularis oculi encircles the palpebral fissure laterally and inferiorly. Superficial facial landmarks, including the eyebrow hairs and upper eyelid margins, help orient the muscle’s position relative to the superior orbital margin. Small but diagnostic. Corrugator supercilii is the main “frown” muscle, drawing the eyebrow inferomedially and creating vertical glabellar rhytids, a pattern that contrasts with frontalis-driven horizontal forehead lines.
